Chinese Canadian military history has been minimally acknowledged by the Canadian Armed Forces, the Canadian War Museum or any part of Canadian history taught in schools. The result of the Chinese Canadians serving their country led to a very profound, if not fundamental political and social change in the Twentieth Century that most Canadians took for granted; the right to Canadian Citizenship and the right to vote.

Such rights had to be earned and because of this, lives were changed forever and lives were sacrificed. Yet, more changes followed. The racial barriers of the professions were lowered and Chinese Canadians were allowed to work in the field of accounting, engineering, law, and pharmacy. Even the field of banking and the retail business were opened to them.

Now in the early Twenty-first Century, we live in a colour-blind society, thanks largely to the efforts of the veterans who made it possible.

Part of this exhibit will change from time to time on a rotational basis. If there more photographs to be collected and more stories to be told, please contact the Curator, Larry Wong at 604-879-9383.

This exhibit is not possible without the help and contribution of many individuals too numerous to name here. Special thanks should go to Howe Lee, the Executives and Directors of the Chinese Canadian Military Museum for their help, support and encouragement.
