Tung On Hong was born in Ko Jang, Sun Way, China on August 3, 1894 and was living in Cochrane, Ontario in 1917.
He joined the Canadian Army on May 19, 1917 in Sudbury Ontario and was assigned a Service Number of 2250839.
He was assigned to the Haileybury Forestry Draft and arrived in England on the SS Justicia on May 7, 1917. He was assigned to the 60th Company of the Canadian Forestry Corps and arrived in France on July 30, 1917.
He served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in France and he returned to England after the war had ended. On March 23, 1919 he departed from England on the Empress of Britain and was discharged from the Canadian Army in Toronto on April 2, 1919.
Private Hong was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
